Carlos Tarrasón, CEO of Cluster Consulting and specialist consultant in GIs in Brazil, participated in the na Preparation of the case study of the PDO Mel de Aroeira do Norte de Minas, which was part of the "Study on strategies to support Geographical Indications after registration", published by WIPO in 2025.

With this study, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) delves deeper into the use of GIs as a tool to strengthen small businesses through intellectual property, seeking to develop strategies to support Geographical Indications or Collective Marks after registration.  See WIPO project here. 

Carlos Tarrasón worked throughout 2023 on constructing a case study for the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) for Aroeira Honey from Northern Minas Gerais. He analyzed documents, interviewed key stakeholders, visited the territory, and identified the main past, present, and future challenges, especially those related to the implementation of the PDO following its recognition in 2022. The implementation of the PDO includes origin and quality control, market positioning efforts, and ultimately seeks recognition of the product's distinctive value, leading to more robust demand and a fair price for producers.
